Holy Week 2016

Holy Week is the most important time in the life of the church.

This week we celebrate and mourn the death of the Savior of the World. Only through the Christ can anyone stand holy and blameless before a good God.

As you approach Easter Sunday, walk with Jesus to the cross. Seek him so that you may encounter your need and God’s provision through Jesus.

Here are several devotionals that may help you process this incredible time in the church.

What is Lent?

The Lenten season in general, and its practice, may be uncharted territory for many in evangelical, Christian circles This is especially true for Baptists. However, there is a lot more to Lent than an ashen cross upon one’s forehead—enough to cause me to invite you into a month-long journey. A journey of embracing our sinfulness and marveling at the grace-filled sacrifice of Christ on the cross. A month of celebrating Christ’s victorious resurrection from the dead and pronouncing final victory over sin, Satan and the grave.

Lent, as a part of the historic Christian calendar, provides us with an incredible opportunity to invite the extraordinary story of redemption into the ordinary patterns of our daily lives. Whether through fasting, intentional time in prayer and study of the Scriptures or meditation on the ugliness of sin and the beauty of the gospel, Lent invites us to slow down, to pause, to ready ourselves for Resurrection Sunday.

I pray you will consider committing to the journey of Lent this year. If you choose to do so, I pray you find the attached devotional from our trusted friends at The Gospel Coalition helpful in your journey. I pray that this month is one in which we fast, pray and commune deeply with God and with one another. May the Holy Spirit awaken in our hearts a deep enjoyment of all that God has done for us in the beautiful, wonderful, amazing gospel of Jesus Christ.
